Building a solar farm at the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s Port of Long Beach will require some $400,000 in construction materials, labor, and equipment.
The site, at the mouth of the South Boston Harbor, has a capacity of about 5,000 solar panels.
The site’s developer, SolarPower, has also partnered with the Port of Boston to put up a solar array for a new facility, which will cost about $100,000.
The project will be a collaboration between the Port and the Long Beach Department of Environmental Protection.
The Port has been involved in the construction of solar energy projects in other cities.
In May, the port installed an array of about 4,000 panels on the site of the new Port of Chicago, which is under construction.
