Construction worker Anthony Smith, 46, died Saturday after contracting Turner Construction Co., according to a statement from the company.
Smith worked for the company for about a year, the statement said.
Smith was an employee of the company from December 2014 to June 2015.
“We are heartbroken to learn of Anthony Smith’s passing.
We are deeply saddened by his passing,” Turner Construction said in the statement.
The company said Smith was a full-time, full-year employee.
A representative for the New York City Fire Department and the New Jersey Department of Health and Mental Hygiene said the department is investigating the incident.
Smith had been working as a truck driver at Turner Construction for about two years, the company said.
The statement said the company has since suspended Smith’s employment with the company pending the outcome of an investigation.
Smith’s death comes a day after a woman died from heat exhaustion in Brooklyn, New York, after contracting the coronavirus, according to the New England Journal of Medicine.
